Wilma's life journey

Wilma Flournoy, 86 years old, recently of St Paul, Minnesota, passed away Wednesday, November 17th, 2021 at home surrounded by family.

Wilma was born on July 1st, 1935 in Chicago, Illinois to Margaret (Smith) and Harold Landgraf. She was raised by her maternal grandparents, Mary (Blake) and Marshall Bronson Smith. She and her grandfather were inseparable. After her grandmothers death she lived with the Wiley family along with their grandson, Ronnie Wiley.

Wilma married Jimmie Roberts in 1954, divorcing in 1974. She then married Donald Flournoy in 1978. They relocated to a farm near Castlewood, South Dakota in 1979 where they enjoyed living for 30 years.

Wilma was an outspoken person all of her life. Whether it was sticking up for the underdog or leading the way for safer playground equipment at the schools, she did it! It was no surprise that she was involved in healthcare for most of her working years. She worked as a scrub nurse at Rush-St. Luke's in Chicago then as a ward secretary at Christ Hospital Oak Lawn, Illinois. After moving to South Dakota she enrolled in the LPN program at Lake Area Technical School in Watertown, SD. She was employed at care centers in Watertown and Clear Lake, SD before retiring.

Wilma was preceded in death by her husband Donald Flournoy, grandson Tedd Roberts and daughter in-law Marcia Roberts.

Wilma is survived by

her daughter Norma Roberts-Hakizimana of St. Paul, Minnesota;

her son Jay Roberts of Chicago, Illinois;

her son Patrick Roberts of Madison, Wisconsin;

her daughter Julie Roberts of Chicago, Illinois.

Wilma is survived by 10 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great grandchild. Wilma also had several step-children, and step-grandchildren along with an abundance of relatives and lifelong friends that were as close as family.
