About Bill
William Hughes passed away peacefully in his sleep on Sunday, December 22 at age 82. William Hughes or, Bill, as most knew him, was a loving husband, father, step father, brother, grandfather, and father-in-law. Bill was a baker and spent years filling the Rocky River Bakery with delicious breads, pastries, cookies, pies, and cakes. (His son in law, Scott, was particularly fond of Bill’s apple fritters.) To watch Bill in the bakery was to observe a combination of efficiency and artistry.
As newlyweds in the late 90’s Bill and Beth started the Rocky River Bakery in Taylor’s Falls, MN. Bill and Beth made a great team both as business owners and best friends. Beth and Bill spent their free time traveling the country with a shared love of natural beauty and exploration.
Bill showed his love through acts of service for his community and family. For his community, Bill spent years serving in elected positions for both the county and town government. For his family, he showed his love through small and large acts of service. One example was that Bill would patiently pack all items deemed “essential” by Beth, for their upcoming adventures, into the car and camper without judgement or comment. Or, when his step daughter, Anne, and son in law, Scott, planned a wedding in Beth and Bill’s backyard, Bill built the dance floor to help avoid additional rental fees. At the wedding reception, Bill then had the chance to show off his moves on his dance-floor masterpiece.
Bill loved dogs and was an avid camper, boater, fisherman, and hunter. He was quick to laugh, make a joke, and was a great listener. Bill sang beautifully, but graced only a select few with his lovely baritone voice. Through a quiet, peaceful demeanor, Bill brought calm and love into the rooms he stepped in. He was also able to simplify life’s challenges through catchy one liners like, “ Well, that sounds like a real sucker!” Bill will be forever loved and remembered by many including his wife Beth, children, stepchildren, grandchildren, siblings, friends, and his dog Eddie.
