Bill's Story

Bill’s story started in Oakland, California on February 3, 1950, born to Paul and Lorraine Sperry. He joined his big brother Paul, and his sisters Sindee and Robin completed the family of six a few years later. His dad was in the Navy and moved the family to Florida, Oklahoma, Maine, and Minnesota, where he retired. Bill had fond memories of living in Maine. He often spoke of going to the local grocery with a dime to buy a comic book and penny candy. He would lay in the grass, reading and eating his candy. Stephen King, his favorite author, hailed from Maine and so was also special to Bill.

Bill had four children and six grandchildren: son Dean (children Jake and Sam); daughter Tammy (children Kolten and Kaitlin); Leo (who died shortly after birth); and Todd, (children TJ and Bailey).

He worked as a printer for over 30 years. He drove for Metro Mobility for 18 years, where he met future wife Kathryn Honey. They were married on January 1, 2011.

Bill had a head for numbers. He loved Vegas, one of his happy places, where he played craps until the wee hours of the morning. He was a Bill had a head for numbers. He loved Vegas, one of his happy places, where he played craps until the wee hours of the morning. He was a cribbage tournament champion, enjoyed restoring his GTO, and went on several cruises. Throughout the years he went to many concerts of the artists he grew up with. He had an impressive ability to recall the song, artist, and year that it was released. One of his favorite songs was Danny Boy, sung by Bing Crosby, but he also loved most of the music of the 50's and 60's. He loved history, especially history of the American West and of World War I and II. He was able to cross off visiting the Alamo from his bucket list in March 2024.

Bill was quiet and introspective, but he had a deep kindness and generosity expressed not so much in words as in actions.

Bill's story ended on January 6, 2025, but his story lives within us. He is forever in our hearts.
