Victor Arnold Lynne, Jr.
April 26, 1926 – September 30, 2022
About Victor
A limb fell from our family tree on 30 September 2022. Victor's quiet, gentle influence and sense of humor is already missed.
Born in Winona, MN to Hazel Eloise Ibertson and Victor Arnold Lynne Sr. on 26 April 1926, the family later moved to Bemidji where Victor attended Central Elementary, graduated from Bemidji High School, attended Bemidji State Teachers College and Minot State College. He enlisted in the Navy in 1944, serving in Samar, Philippines on construction of Fleet Hospital 114.
After being discharged from the Navy, Victor was offered the opportunity to work for a canoe outfitter out of Ely, MN guiding boy scouts through the Boundary Water Canoe Area, which was a highlight of his life. That experience led to a lifelong love of canoeing.
Victor married Suzanne Geyerman in 1949, had six children including Victor A Lynne III, Laura Lynne, Dawn (Kris) McKinney, twins Mark and Eric, and later divorced. He managed his father-in-law's cattle farm in Mitchell, SD for 8 yrs, raising a South Dakota State Fair grand-champion Hereford Bull.
He then moved his family back to Lake Vermilion near Cook, MN. In June 1966, Victor married the love of his life (they had dated in high school) Betty JoAnn Kalbrener and made their home at Betty's place on Big Turtle Lake north of Bemidji. In addition to his own children, Victor was a loving father to Betty's children Kurt and Cindy (Allan) Habedank.
Vic was an avid outdoors-man with keen observation skills. He considered himself a jack-of-"alot"-of trades with carpentry his main trade.
Annual vacations with Betty were spent traveling the nation in their camper visiting all the national parks on the continent. During retirement they wintered in Texas in a 5th wheel, bringing their canoe to explore waterways.
Vic preferred being at home on Big Turtle Lake, tending the yard and garden and listening to the loons call. It was his wish to remain in their home until his last day on earth and that wish came true. He made choices to not impress others, but to follow his heart. In keeping with this philosophy he did not want a full fledged funeral, so we won't be putting him through that.
Victor was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Mary Elizabeth, his parents, sister Joanne Reeve and son, Kurt Kalbrener.
He leaves behind his loving wife of 56 years, Betty, his 6 children, 19 grand-children, 16 great-grandchildren, and 2.5 great-great-great grandchildren.
We still feel his love for us, and our love for him continues.
