About Vicki

Vicki Joan Haugtvedt (nee Herring) was born June 20, 1953, in Menomonie, Wisconsin to Earl and Ruth Herring. She passed away on November 14, 2024, in Buchs, Switzerland after a sudden and short battle with cancer, with her husband Paul of 48 years at her side. Vicki was only 71 years of age.

Vicki’s early life was spent in Minnesota, and although she moved around the state, she always considered Moorhead, MN her home. She graduated from Moorhead State University earning a bachelor’s degree in health and physical education. After years of coaching, she found her true calling as a teacher. She taught middle school math in Oklahoma and after moving to Switzerland she taught in both a local Swiss school (Berufsvorbereitungs Jahr) as well as at the International School Rheintal.

Vicki met Paul Haugtvedt in 1974 at a bible study, and they were married in 1976. After a stint in Germany with YWAM, they moved to Oklahoma for 13 years where all three of their children were born. In 1993 they moved their family to Switzerland and made it their home for the next 31 years.

She was strong believer in Jesus and an active member of her church (International Bible Fellowship) helping lead Sunday school and started a women’s bible study. She was known throughout her community as an artist and enjoyed passing her love of art to others. She saw beauty in everything around her, but even more in the people around her. She was loved by those that knew her and will be missed.

She is survived by her loving husband Paul, daughters Heidi (Johan) Vermaak of Pretoria, South Africa, Rachael (Jarren) Lawler of Stillwater, OK, and son, Michael (Wendy) Haugtvedt of Oak Point, TX. She had seven grandchildren who will miss her dearly: Emma, Noah, Nate, Josiah, Arabella, Wyatt, Remi. And siblings Pamela (Charles) Wettstein of Kingsland, TX, Roberta (Michael) Becchetti of Maple Grove, MN, and David (Kyle Ann) Herring of Maple Plain, MN and their families.

She was preceded in death by her parents (Ruth and Earl), and her sister (Cynthia Preston)
