Valerie Doris Greenstein (Cournoyer)

Valerie Greenstein, 94, passed away peacefully in the presence of her daughter on November 5, 2021 to be with the Lord.

Valerie was preceded in death by her husband, James Greenstein; her daughter, Diane Gillitzer (Ron); and her grandson, Jeremy Gillitzer. She is survived by her daughter, Joyce Greenstein; her brother, Donald Cournoyer (Marge); her grandson, Nathan Gillitzer (Gwen); her great-grandchildren, Megan and Natalie; and many nieces and nephews.

Born on September 6th, 1927, Valerie grew up in St. Paul, Minnesota, the daughter of Louis and Martha Cournoyer and sister of Donald Cournoyer.

She fell in love and married James Greenstein in 1951. They made their home in Roseville, Minnesota and joined St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church. They had two daughters, Diane and Joyce; two grandsons, Jeremy and Nathan; and two great-grandchildren, Megan and Natalie.

Valerie and Jim shared many interests and hobbies in common, including golf, bowling, cards, dinner parties, volunteering, reading, listening to great music, and spending time with their family and friends. They truly made a great partnership!

Valerie was a compassionate, kind and generous lady. Being around Valerie was easy and peaceful and always enjoyable. She will be greatly missed by all who loved her.

The family would like to thank the staff and nurses at the Pillars Hospice Home for their compassionate care of Valerie during her final weeks.
