Thord “Ted” Julius Nicholson, 82, Menahga, MN passed away Sunday, January 29, 2023 at CHI St. Joseph’s Health in Park Rapids, MN.

Ted was born to Thord C. and Elva (Toepel) Nicholson in Chicago, IL. He grew up in Illinois, graduating from high school in 1958. He lived in Wauconda, Gilberts and Carpentersville, IL before moving to Menahga.

On May 25, 1990 he was united in marriage to Debbra Shipman. Ted worked as a machinist in injection molding and worked for Thord C. Nicholson Inc. in Elgin, IL for 15 years, MJ Sales for 5 years, and for Quantum Plastics in Streamwood, IL for 5 years. He retired in 2005.

Ted Nicholson was a man who adored his family and had joy in sharing his love of fishing, computers, and his love of Minnesota with his family and friends. He was a man that proudly raised many children that were not his own and these children continued to look up to him as a father figure. His most beloved dog Alice was by his side daily, as was his cat Oreo.

He was loved by his wife, children, grandchildren and great grandchildren as well as his siblings. Ted will always be this family’s legend.

Ted is survived by his wife, Debbra Nicholson of Menahga; children, Marie Steta of Morris, IL, Scott Nicholson of Elgin, IL, Dawn Otte of Greenville, TN, Misty Villarreal of Park Rapids, Charles Nicholson of Greenville, SC; siblings, Ruth Ellen Meyer of Beverly MA, Harvey (Barbara) Nicholson of St. Anne, IL; 16 grandchildren; 5 great grandchildren; and 2 nieces.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Thord C. and Elva Nicholson.
