life story
A strong-willed and big-hearted man of faith
Thomas Allan Dodson Sr, a devoted man of Christian faith, master of his craft, proud Air Force veteran, and loving husband, father, and grandfather, went home to be with the Lord on Sept 14, 2025 at the age of 85.
In loving memory of Tom/Pa-man Dodson
Born on October 31, 1939 in Illinois, Tom grew up with a strong work ethic, and felt the call to enlist in the Air Force at just 17 years old.
After his service, Tom moved to Oregon where he met the love of his life, Charlene, and wasted no time getting married and having 3 beautiful children Debbie, Tom Jr and Jeff. He and Charlene were married 62 years before she passed in 2021.
Tom went on to become a respected contractor, spending over 50 years building, fixing, and creating. For him, work was never just a job—it was a way of life, often accompanied by his upbeat humming that let everyone know he was in his element.
He was gruff at times, strong-willed and hard-headed, but beneath that tough exterior was a man who never hesitated to lend a hand. Whether it was a friend down on their luck or a family member with a project, Tom showed up—tools in hand, ready to help. His generosity was felt by many, and his fingerprints are left on countless lives and places.
As a grandfather, he brought love, wisdom, and an unmistakable sense of humor to his grandchildren, who will forever remember his stories, his grins, and the little quirks that made him special. Everyone who knew him can picture the way he would end a conversation—with a mischievous punch to the arm and his signature phrase: “Take that with ya.” It was his way of leaving a small reminder that he cared, and those words now carry a much deeper meaning for those who loved him.
Though we will miss his sly grins, his strong hands, and his stubborn spirit, we take comfort in knowing that Tom lived a life of faith and service. He leaves behind not only the buildings he constructed but also a legacy of love, strength, and devotion that will guide his family for generations to come. Tom is preceded in death by his wife Charlene and son Jeff, he is survived by his children Debbie and Tom (Parisa), grandchildren Jake, Ashlee, Mandie, Tommy, Alicia (Robert), Zach, and Gina, and great grandchildren Ellie, Jaden, Landon and Logan.
