Theodore "Ted" Nienow died peacefully in his home on June 3, 2023, in Bagley, MN, at the age of 78.

Ted is survived by Gerianne Nienow, former wife and mother of Alison Koepke, Scott (Kadie) Koepke, Shayna Nienow, Nathaniel (Samantha) Nienow, and Annalie Nienow, and brother - Richard (Rita) Nienow, and grandchildren - Khouri Koepke, Jackson Koepke, and Logan Koepke.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Helen and Vernon Nienow.

Ted grew up in Aitkin, MN, graduating from high school there in 1963. Ted also graduated from the University of Minnesota Duluth in 1970, with a degree in zoology. He served in the U.S. Army from 1966 to 1968.

After moving to Bagley in 1973, Ted worked as a carpenter, furniture builder, and farmer before starting his business, making delicate flower bouquets out of wood.

Ted was an avid outdoorsman. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, trapping, gardening, making maple syrup, harvesting wild rice, and any other excuse to spend time in the woods. Ted was always passionate about conservation and preserving wildlife habitat. He spent his life planting trees, building ponds, and turning his farm into a nature preserve.

Music was a huge part of his life. He played guitar and sang for decades before writing and recording his first album in 2020.

Ted was integral in growing the local 4H shooting sports program and served on the local school board.

The family would like to thank family, friends, and the Fosston hospice caregivers for their support.

June 24, 2023

The event, starting at 3:00 p.m., will take place at Nathaniel and Samantha Nienow’s home at 38379 County 7, Bagley, MN, with a potluck reception to follow. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Ted’s life.
