About Terry

Terry Kenneth Vereide was born to Kenneth and Edna Vereide in Minneapolis, MN on April 28th, 1951. On February 15th, 2024 Terry passed away at his home in Brooklyn Park with family gathered close.

Terry spent most of his youth growing up in Richfield, MN and then at the age of 16 his family moved to a new home in Bloomington, MN. He graduated from Bloomington, Lincoln High School in 1969. In 1971 he was drafted into the Army and went on to serve as an MP in Viet Nam. When he had completed his military service he returned home and married his high school sweetheart, Dawn Allan.

Terry and Dawn were married for 51 years and they were blessed with three wonderful children; Carrie, Jim and Cindy. Shortly after their marriage Terry began working for his father-in-law in his sheet metal fabricating business. This introduced Terry to a trade and industry that became his working career. Through the many years working in the HVAC industry Terry held various positions, learning and growing his business knowledge in every new position. He’d found his niche and loved learning new skills and building his knowledge and expertise over the years.

Terry enjoyed being around the water. He loved fishing on the many fresh water lakes here in Minnesota as well as salt water fishing in the Gulf whenever he spent time in Florida. He also had an opportunity to fish for salmon on a trip to Alaska. But most often he simply enjoyed just throwing in a line from a dock or the shore of most any body of water. Fishing was one of his favorite ways to relax.

In his retirement years he and Dawn spent winters in Englewood Florida. Most mornings Terry would be up before the sunrise and off to walk the beach looking for sharks teeth. He loved sharing and comparing his finds with others he met on his walks. He greatly enjoyed those retirement winters and felt so blessed that he’d been given time to enjoy something so simple.

Terry loved to build and tinker and also fix broken stuff. He was the handyman of handymen. He enjoyed fixing old clocks he’d found at thrift stores and he acquired quite a collection over the years. He was mostly self taught when it came to fixing stuff but it was obvious that he just had a knack for figuring things out and coming up with solutions. His skills to repair and create most anything will be greatly missed by his family and friends.

Terry’s love for his family was immense and he cared for them until his last days. He is survived by his wife, Dawn; children, Carrie, Jim and Cindy; Sons-in law Kevin and Mark; daughter-in-law, Katy; grandchildren, Sophie, Nick, Nolan, Rose and Elliot; and sister, Lori. He also leaves behind many other loving relatives and dear friends.

He was much loved and loved much. He will be missed!
