life story

A proud U.S. citizen and retired U.S. Air Force veteran

Terry McGreevey, a proud U.S. citizen and retired U.S. Air Force veteran whose life was defined by dedication, global travel, and a profound commitment to community, passed away peacefully on December 13, 2025, at the age of 86.

Born in Dublin, Ireland, on September 14, 1939, Terry’s family moved to Blackpool, England, early in his youth. His foundational years included graduating from St. Joseph's College in Blackpool in the Class of 1965. At the tender age of 17, he embarked on a life-changing journey, immigrating to the United States. This move set the stage for a highly successful career in the U.S. Air Force, from which he eventually retired, having honorably served his adopted nation. Following his distinguished military service, he pursued higher education, earning a Bachelor's Degree in Business from Radford University in 1982. This blend of rigorous military discipline and academic accomplishment prepared him for the next chapter of his life.

Terry settled down in Roanoke, Virginia, with his wife, Lettie, where they lovingly raised their two daughters. In Roanoke, Terry truly cemented his legacy through his passionate involvement in the local community, particularly the sport of soccer. He became an active and influential figure, culminating in a period where he served as the head coach at Cave Spring High School in the late 1980s, mentoring young athletes and fostering a love for the game. Beyond coaching, Terry was a true sports enthusiast, enjoying everything from golf to American Football, with a special allegiance to both the Los Angeles Dodgers and the Boston Red Sox.

A world traveler in his youth and amazing storyteller, Terry possessed warmth that drew people in. He truly lived by the mantra that he never met a person who was not his friend, leaving behind a rich tapestry of personal connection, professional achievement, and community impact.

He is survived by his daughters, Kellie Meredith and Kerrie McGreevey.
