About Steven
Steven Thomas Pinkerton, 63, born August 10th, 1959, entered the presence of his Lord and Savior on January 9th, 2023, at his home in Bemidji, MN, after a long battle with illness.
Steve was raised in Dugspur, VA, where his parents faithfully served at Calvary Bible Church for 43 years. He graduated from Hillsville High School in 1977, before attending Moody Bible Institute in Chicago, IL.
Steve met Tess Coffin while earning a degree in ”Indian Studies” at Bemidji State University in 1984, and they were married on August 7th, 1993, in Tenstrike, MN. His major led him to dear friendships with people of Ponemah and Redby, MN.
He learned the roofing trade and soon established his own company, Minnesota Roofing, in Bemidji, MN. He did residential roofs and commercial projects throughout the area. He retired in the early 2000’s to spend time with his family and to travel more.
When he retired, he enjoyed managing his rental properties and getting to know his tenants. This also provided an opportunity for him to teach his sons many useful skills as they helped him on various projects.
His favorite places to go were Rainy Lake and Lake Kabetogama in Voyageurs National Park, where he enjoyed camping and boating with his family. He also loved to travel with his family, taking them on numerous trips across the country in his motorhome, as well as visiting friends and family in Alaska and Uganda, Africa.
Steve was known for faithfully serving God which he started from a young age, helping his parents with church and camp ministry. Throughout his life he served in Native North America and faithfully led his family and instructed his boys in the truths of the gospel and God’s word. Steve is also remembered for his great love of Bible prophecy and his eager expectation of Christ’s return.
The family is deeply grateful for the many friends who have kindly helped care for Steve and would especially like to thank the hospice team at Sanford Bemidji for their care and support over the last 2 years.
He will be dearly missed by his faithful and loving wife of 29 years, Tess (Coffin) Pinkerton and his three sons, Samuel, Seth, and Timothy, in addition to his five siblings: Susan (Tom) Hilker of Elkhorn, WI; Jim (Lois) Pinkerton of Kernersville, NC; Mark (Bonnie) Pinkerton, of Cedarville, OH; Jean (Ed) Lanning of Hillsville, VA; and Cheryl (Rory) Patterson of Lynchburg, VA, as well as many nieces and nephews and great-nieces and nephews.
He has been reunited in Heaven with his parents J. Alfred and Lois (Torbet) Pinkerton of Dugspur, VA, and his niece, Melinda Pinkerton, of Cedarville, OH.
