life story
A fun-loving family man who didn't take life too seriously
Steven Lyle Featherston Sr., age 78, passed away on February 24, 2026, surrounded by the love of his family. He was born on November 6, 1947, to Lyle and Mary Featherston. Steve grew up with his 4 sisters (Pat, Diane, Adrienne, and Janice) and one brother (Doug).
Steve graduated as a member of the very first graduating class of Coon Rapids High School in 1966. In his early years, he worked at Blaine Grocery and Liberty Park Grocery before spending the remainder of his career at Certified Painting as a tank man.
On April 1, 1967, Steve married the love of his life, Betty. Together they built a life centered on family, laughter, and simple joys. One of their favorite places was the family cabin in New London, Minnesota. Many cherished memories were made there — fishing on Nest Lake, making sailboats to float across the water, and celebrating the Fourth of July. It was common to find Steve and Betty sitting side by side at the end of the dock, a bobber in the water, enjoying peaceful moments together.
Steve loved fishing, spending time with family, and sharing his unique sense of humor. He was known for telling jokes whether you wanted to hear them or not, always aiming to make others laugh. He especially treasured time with his children and grandchildren, playing games like Magic Cards and Dungeons & Dragons, singing “Puff the Magic Dragon” on drives to the cabin, and creating memories that will last a lifetime. Steve was a fan of the Minnesota Vikings and enjoyed watching the games with his son Steve Jr.
After residing in Coon Rapids for much of their lives, Steve and Betty spent ten wonderful years of retirement in Mora, Minnesota, along with their beloved dog, Buddy #3. They enjoyed watching the wildlife outside their door — bears, deer, turkeys, raccoons, birds, and squirrels. Due to health concerns, they later moved to Ramsey to be closer to family. In 2025, after suffering three heart attacks that led to heart failure and complications from a debilitating foot wound, Steve’s health declined.
He is survived by his devoted wife of nearly 59 years, Betty; his children, Steve Jr. (Tara) and Holly (Brian Davies); and his seven beloved grandchildren: Samantha, Andrew, Katie, Britney, Anna, Derick, and Aumeri.
Steve will be remembered for his love of family, his time at the cabin, his stories and jokes, and the countless moments he created with those he loved most. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
