Stephen Stanley Sopczak III (Sopy)
January 17, 1961 – September 21, 2026
Deephaven, MN, USA
Stephen Stanley Sopczak III, age 65, of Deephaven, Minnesota, passed away on September 21, 2026.
Growing up in Eden Prairie, Minnesota, he had a lifelong love of fast cars, boats, snowmobiles, hockey, and just about anything with a motor. A natural tinkerer and problem-solver, he could often be found taking something apart, fixing it, improving it, or helping someone else figure out how to make it work.
Hockey was an important part of his life from an early age. He played growing up in Eden Prairie, where his father was instrumental in helping establish the community’s hockey program. He later shared that love of the game with his own children, all three of whom played hockey throughout their childhoods. He rarely missed an opportunity to cheer them on and was always one of their biggest supporters.
He will be remembered for his willingness to lend a hand. He was the neighbor who finished shoveling his own driveway and simply kept going to the next one. Whether fixing something, helping with a project, or pitching in when someone needed him, helping others came naturally to Steve.
He was a jokester who loved making people laugh. He brought plenty of humor and personality wherever he went and rarely missed an opportunity to have a little fun.
Above all, Steve was a proud father to his three children, Stephen IV, 26; Shiloh, 23; and Saige, 20, and loved his faithful companion, Buddy. His children will carry with them many memories of their dad, his humor, his projects, his passions, and the countless moments that made him unmistakably Steve.
Preceded in death by his parents, Stephen and Patricia Sopczak; his sister, Diane; and his brother, Andrew.
A visitation will be held Friday, October 2, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church in Minnetonka, Minnesota, mass following at 11:00 a.m.
Steve will be remembered for his sense of humor, his love of hockey and anything that went fast, his ability to fix just about anything, his willingness to help others, and most of all, for being unmistakably Steve.
