life story
Steve, the epitome of gentleness
In Loving Memory of Head Coach Steve
It is with heavy hearts that we remember and honour the life of an extraordinary swimming coach who dedicated three remarkable years to the CNQB club. His sudden passing has left a void that will be deeply felt by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
On the pool deck, he was the epitome of a gentleman—always warm, approachable, and ready with a greeting for his peers. Despite his impressive qualifications and vast experience, he carried himself with humility, always willing to listen and acknowledge others. His ability to connect with people - whether athletes, colleagues, or parents, - was one of his greatest gifts.
As a coach for the senior team, he was more than just a trainer; he was a mentor and a guiding light. He had a unique talent for analysing each team member, understanding their strengths and weaknesses, and instilling in them a belief in their potential. Under his guidance, the team reached new heights, achieving milestones that once seemed out of reach. His passion for the sport and his unwavering commitment to his athletes inspired everyone around him.
Beyond the pool, he was a pillar of support for parents, always offering reassurance and the right words to bring clarity and unity. To many, he was like a father figure, providing not just technical expertise but also emotional guidance and encouragement.
His contributions extended far beyond the club. He played a pivotal role in the Mauritius Swimming Federation, helping to organise competitions and fostering the growth of swimming in the country. His dedication to the sport was further exemplified by his accompaniment of the Mauritius team to the Commonwealth Games, the African Games, the Africa Aquatics Senior and Junior Championships, the IOIG Games, the CSJOI Games and the World Aquatics Championships, where he proudly represented the Mauritian nation.
His passing has come far too soon, and his absence will be profoundly felt by the CNQB club, the Mauritius swimming community, and all who knew him. He was a coach, a mentor, a leader, and a friend. His legacy will live on in the countless lives he touched and the indelible mark he left on the sport he loved so dearly.
To the Haupt family, his beloved parents, his sons, and his dearest love, Klara, we extend our deepest condolences. We cannot begin to imagine the depth of your loss, but please know that his memory will forever be cherished by all of us.
Coach, you will be dearly missed, but your spirit and impact will continue to inspire us all. Rest in peace, Boss.
