Stephen Jerome Nelson, 82, of Laporte, MN went to be with the Lord, Thursday, February 22, 2024 at Sanford Fargo Medical Center as a result from a car accident on January 31.

Stephen was born February 2, 1942 in Minneapolis, MN, the son of Carl and Bess (Papke) Nelson. Stephen was raised in Minneapolis, graduated from Minneapolis West High School (1960), and furthered his education at the University of Minnesota.

For 25 years he worked at Honeywell/Alliant Tech Systems.

On August 29, 1970, he married Claudette Giltner. Their love and devotion to one another surpassed 53 years. They raised their family in Minnetonka, MN, and in 1995, Stephen and Claudette relocated to the Bemidji area where they spent the rest of their blessed marriage.

Stephen was a man of integrity who genuinely manifested high character. He was a self-less man who dedicated himself to his family and his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. He enjoyed fishing, Claudette's cooking, time spent with friends and family, and all the simple pleasures of life like yard games with his grandchildren and time around a campfire. More recently, he valued his time with a men's Bible study group. Stephen was loved and adored by all who had the privilege of knowing him.

He is survived by his wife, Claudette Nelson of Laporte, and their sons: Matthew (Cari), Mark (Roxann), Michael (Nicole), and his six grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents Carl and Bess Nelson, and his sister Linda Bestler.
