life story
Stephen B. Kinderman~The pinball wizard is at peace
Steve, age 56 of Oakdale, MN passed away at home under hospice care in the early morning hours of April 14, 2022 after succumbing to stage IV metastatic lung cancer.
Steve will forever be remembered for his unique sense of humor, his love for playing hockey, his amazing ability to remember details about life events, his uncanny ability to “fix” just about anything he put his mind to and his extensive love and knowledge of music.
Steve leaves behind his wife Lynn of 28 years, his “best buddy” son Frank, his beloved furry friend Luna, mother Carole, sister Loretta, brother Matthew(Mindy), and many beloved aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews and many dear friends.
Preceded in death by father Richard Kinderman.
Steve served in the Navy from 1985 until 1988 aboard the USS Charles F. Adams. In 1991 he served in Operation Desert Storm stationed in Norfolk, VA.
Steve had many passions in life especially when it came to the love of his family and his only child Frank. Their relationship was one that was second to none. Steve was present and supportive in any of Frank’s endeavors whether it was playing golf or collecting coins.
Steve was always the adult at the family party who was playing with the kids. He was truly a kid at heart. He was the stay at home dad who had the entire neighborhood in our driveway while he fixed their bikes and shot hoops with them.
In 2003 Steve bought his first pinball machine. He had played machines in his dad’s basement as a kid growing up. What started as one game turned into a very large collection of “old school” electromechanical pinball machines. In 2009 he started his own very successful business out of our home. He loved his new found niche. He was known as the “pinball guy” and his customers knew and respected his quality of work. Steve’s Old School Pinball was his business but buying, selling and repairing those games were his passion.
Steve’s cancer journey
We would like to extend our heartfelt thanks to each and every family member that has loved, prayed for, cared for and supported our family during these nearly two years since the diagnosis. Steve, Frank and I will never be able to express the love and appreciation we have for the help we received.
We also want to thank Steve’s tremendous team of doctors and nurses at the Minneapolis VA. He was well taken care of during every visit. Steve has great respect for all of his doctors and always felt safe when he was in their care.
The last four months of Steve’s life he spent at home with a care team from Hospice of the Midwest, Woodbury. Steve referred to his team of nurses and HHA as “ his girls”. He loved them and they enjoyed Steve’s company and that unique sense of humor.
The support our entire family has received was incredible.
Our lives will never be the same without Steve, but we know how grateful and blessed we are because of our life with him.
We lived our best life every single day over these last few years. We filled our life with what Steve loved, his family, his friends, his puppy Luna and his passion for music. His music brought him comfort until the day he passed.
