About Shyne

Shyne Barrett, 18, of Red Lake passed away on Friday October 27, 2023 at her home.

Shyne “Karis” Barrett, a bright and gentle spirit, began her journey to the spirit world on Friday, October 27th, 2023. Her spirit name is Gichi Makwa Ikwe (Big Bear Woman) and her namesake is the late Darren “Biskit” Defoe.

Shyne, a member of the Sturgeon clan, was born on October 28, 2004. Raised by her paternal grandparents, Karen and Tom Barrett, she shared an inseparable bond with her grandpa, a relationship that defined her early years. She affectionately called her Aunt Rose, Mom.

In Ray, her significant other, Shyne found a soulmate in every sense of the word. Their union welcomed a precious gift into this world, a beautiful daughter named Sydney, who arrived in July of 2023. Shyne's love and devotion to her family knew no bounds, leaving an enduring mark on our hearts. Shyne was a creator of beauty and joy, infusing every corner of her life with her unique touch.

Whether it was animals, her favorite novels, or the people she surrounded herself with, Shyne loved wholly and deeply. She dove into her interests and hobbies with her whole heart and she rarely departed without an “I love you.”

Her affinity for pastel colors, particularly her beloved shade of pink, reflected her vibrant spirit. Fashion and makeup were not just interests, but canvases through which she expressed her creativity. Her fondness for the world of Sanrio, fandom culture, anime, and her favorite culinary delights like ramen, sushi, and vanilla bean frappes at Starbucks were a testament to her eclectic tastes.

A passionate photographer, Shyne had an uncanny ability to capture moments that spoke volumes. Her cherished cat, Pumpkin, was showered with affection and pampered like royalty. Shyne recently found a love in cooking from her Grandma Karen. Her signature dishes—a steaming bowl of chili, enchiladas, or a comforting wild rice casserole—could heal any soul.

Shyne will forever reside in our hearts. Though she has departed, we know she is never truly gone.

Shyne is welcomed into the spirit world by Father Robert “Bob” Barrett, Great-grandfather William Norris, Great-grandparents John Henry and Cleona Barrett, Great-uncle Charley Norris, Cousin Andrew “Scooby” Bongo, Grandfather Rick Smith, Great-grandmother Geraldine Neadeau, her beloved dog Beedees, and numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins.
