It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Shirley (Korpela) Janacek on Saturday, November 16, 2024. Shirley passed away peacefully at the age of 78.

Born on September 16, 1946, in Virginia, MN, Shirley grew up in Eveleth, Minnesota, and was a proud Iron Ranger. She graduated from the University of Iowa, earning a nursing degree. She enjoyed her drives in the country, finding peace and joy in the beauty of nature and the open road. Shirley also had a deep love for music and often found happiness in listening to her favorite songs. Additionally, she looked forward to watching the high school hockey tournaments each year, a tradition that brought her much joy.

She is survived by her daughter, Jennifer Janacek (Steven Bertram); and her siblings, Peggy Sloan, Andrew Korpela, and Dorothy Korpela.

A private celebration of Shirley's life will be held at a later time. In place of flowers, memorials of the donor's choice are preferred.

Shirley's family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the nurses and staff at Milaca Elim Meadows for their compassionate care and support.
