A Lifetime of Adventure

Celebrating almost a century of life lived to the fullest, this Epilogg will become the Life Story of Shirley Ann (Slettum) Larson.

Announcing Shirley's Life Story

Shirley Ann (Slettum) Larson, born July 15, 1929, in Turtle Lake, ND, to Icelander Sigrid Anna (Dinusson) and Norwegian Melvin Arthur Slettum, died peacefully at her home in Saint Paul, MN, on June 24, 2025 at the age of 95 years. Cremated by Crescent Tide, her ashes will join those of her beloved husband, Vincent Hennix Larson, later this summer in a place symbolic to them.

In lieu of a Memorial Service, which Shirley did not wish to have (believing that "Life is for the Living)" her niece and long-term caregiver, Ann, is slowly reaching out to family and friends for personal phone calls, casual get-togethers, and visiting the haunts that held meaning to Shirley in the various phases of her life, thereby honoring the living spirit of Shirley with storytelling and fellowship, as she wished. She often stated that her idea of heaven was being remembered in the hearts and minds of others with a lasting and positive impression; and Shirley's fervent request in her final days was to write a story. Her colorful life will be written in this space, unfolding over the next few weeks or months in revisions and mini life chapters and themes. Please revisit! And please add your own Shirley stories and memories in the guest book. Thank You!

Memorials in Shirley's honor are asked to be given in the manner that she gave: plant a Spruce tree; give a tent to the unhoused; support your favorite cause; adopt a pet from the shelter; buy a stranger a meal, or a child a book; attend a concert or community event; and whatever you choose, simply share it with your open heart and enthusiasm.
