Sherry Hall, a loving wife, mother and grandmother whose life touched many, passed away peacefully at her home in Tega Cay, South Carolina, on February 5, 2022. Sherry was born in beautiful Vermont where she met the love of her life, Brian, and where her daughter Kindra was born. Sherry loved to travel and went to many beautiful countries and cities. Her overall favorite city is Paris, which she & Brian got to experience in style during two week-long trips. Her second favorite location was the Isle of Capri, Italy, which she visited during a Mediterranean cruise. Sherry is survived by her husband Brian, daughter Kindra, Son-in-Law Derek Tompkins, Grandsons Caleb & Blake and her two little doggies Capri and Paris.
About Sherry
Sherry was born in the small town of Jeffersonville in northern Vermont to Merrill and Muriel (Gates) Foss. She grew up living in small towns around Burlington, Vermont with her sister Candy (Candice), brother Jay (Merrill Jr.) and youngest sister Lauri. During this time Sherry loved to ride the horses at her grandparents Gates farm. Sherry was also a drum majorette and baton twirler.
In 1967 Sherry graduated from Champlain Valley Union High School where she was on the cheerleading team, and learned her administrative skills when volunteering to work on both the school yearbook and in the school office.
Sherry had many adventures after graduating high school. She was working in the billing office at the Burlington Electric company in May 1983 when her boss told her about the Burlington Rugby Football Club he was on. Sherry and her friend decided to go out to watch the team play one Saturday. This is where she first spotted Brian who was playing the left wing position running up and down the field near the sideline Sherry was watching from. At the after game party Sherry and Brian were made partners for a shuffleboard competition which they went on to beat all competitors. That was the beginning for them.
After a whirlwind romance Sherry and Brian were married in Williston Vermont on February 4, 1984. Sherry and Brian were living in Shelburne, Vermont when they welcomed their only child Kindra Nicole Hall on September 12, 1985.
In addition to being a full time mother to Kindra, Sherry worked a number of part-time administrative support jobs over the years while supporting Brian's aerospace career. This career took them from Vermont to Syracuse, New York, in 1990 and back again to Vermont in 1997. Sherry was working as an administrator at the University of Vermont Physical Therapy Doctorate School while her daughter Kindra was pursuing her degree in Business Marketing at UVM.
Sherry especially loved living in Vermont where she enjoyed downhill and cross country skiing during the winter and hiking/exploring the mountain trails in the spring & fall. Her favorite times were exploring Lake Champlain with Brian, Kindra, family and many friends while on their boat Miss (short for missing) Champlain.
In 2004 Sherry and Brian followed his job at General Dynamics south when they opened a division headquarters in Charlotte, NC. Sherry and Brian settled in Fort Mill, South Carolina where they lived from 2004-2012. Sherry quickly adapted to the southern way of living and joined the Southern Woman's Club, the Bridgehampton Empty Nesters Ladies Group and Forest Hill Church Women's Groups. Sherry retired from working as an administrative assistant when moving south and she became active in supporting charities. She even delivered many meals and companionship while working for the local Meals-on-Wheels Charity.
Sherry also loved to travel the world with Brian. Starting with their honeymoon cruise to the Caribbean they enjoyed the cruising lifestyle and went on several more cruises in the Caribbean Sea, Mediterranean Sea and Alaska over the years. Sherry's all time favorite trips were those when she and Brian explored Europe. Sherry fell in love with the city of Paris during two different week long vacation stays there. Her other favorite European spots visited were Venice, Rome, Tuscany and Capri. This is why she named her doggies Paris and Capri.
In 2012 Sherry's daughter Kindra married Derek Tompkins in Charlotte, NC. Shortly thereafter Sherry and Brian followed his career to Fort Worth, Texas. In Fort Worth Sherry and Brian joined the Lighthouse Church where they were both active and made many good friends.
Cancer struck Sherry while in Texas. Sherry was treated by radiation and chemo for tonsil cancer in 2013. The treatments were successful in curing the cancer and Sherry had a full recovery at the time.
In 2015 upon hearing the news of a coming grandchild Sherry and Brian decided to move back to South Carolina to be close to Kindra and Derek. Her first grandson Caleb was born in 2016 and second grandson Blake in 2017. Sherry loved spending time with Kindra and Derek and the boys while watching the grandsons grow.
Back in South Carolina Sherry joined and was active in the Tega Cay Women's Group, Larkspur Ladies Group and the Fort Mill Forest Hill Church.
Unfortunately, in the last few years, the long term effects of the radiation and chemo treatments from 2013 started to take a toll on Sherry's physical health. Sherry underwent multiple surgeries on both carotid arteries and then her vocal cords which were then followed by several hospitalizations for pneumonia. Sherry could not recover from the last pneumonia bout in January 2022.
For the final hours Brian, with hospice's help, was able to bring Sherry home from the hospital and get her relief from her pain where she peacefully passed away with Brian, Kindra, Derek and her two doggies Paris & Capri at her side.
Sherry is survived by her husband Brian Hall, daughter Kindra Tompkins, son-in-law Derek Tompkins, grandsons Caleb Noah Tompkins (6), and Blake Robert Tompkins (4). She is also survived by her sister Candice and her husband Rick Besette from Shelburne Vermont, brother Merrill (Jay) Foss from Milwaukee Wisconsin and sister Laurie Foss from Delray Beach Florida. Plus her brother & sister-in-laws Larry & Michele Hall from Methuen Massachusetts and Jim & Jane Carter from Bedford Massachusetts.
And finally Bob & Gay McEvoy, her cherished aunt & uncle-in-laws from Westford Massachusetts.
