life story

Shelly Lynn Hahn, aged 61, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family at her home in Mahtomedi, Minnesota, on August 1, 2023.

Born to Leonard and Alice Isdahl on April 13, 1962, in Minneapolis, Minnesota, Shelly spent her childhood years alongside her sisters, Sandy and Lisa. As the middle child, she brought balance, warmth, and humor to her family. She attended Fridley High School, where she met her first husband, Scott. Together they brought into the world their three children: Kristie, Matt, and Ross.

A shining example of dedication and perseverance, Shelly graduated from St. Cloud State University in 2000 with a degree in Dental Hygiene. Every day, she would make the hour-long drive to St Cloud after sending her children off to school. She would also have countless late nights taking notes and studying long after putting the kids to bed. Her diligence was recognized when she graduated at the top of her class and was chosen to give a graduation speech.

After graduating, Shelly went on mission trips to both Ukraine and Haiti in efforts to not only share her faith in God, but also help provide dental care. Along with her team, she was able to make a lasting difference in so many lives in those countries, not only cleaning their teeth but also providing supplies and teaching them how to take care of their teeth in the future. Back home, Shelly dedicated over two decades of her life to her profession, spending the last 14 years at Orchard Dental in Mahtomedi, where her coworkers and patients adored her.

In 2013, Shelly married Jim, enriching her life with new love and extending her family. With open arms and a generous heart, she welcomed Jim's three children into her life, offering them the same love and care she gave to her own. Their family joyously expanded to include more grandchildren, each one holding a special place in Shelly's heart. Together, Shelly and Jim cultivated a shared love for the outdoors, their shared experiences of hiking and camping forming a tapestry of precious memories. Their annual visit to the North Shore in Duluth was a treasured tradition, a special sanctuary of peace and connection for them both.

Shelly was a dedicated and loving mother to her children, and later, to Jim's children, too. She held a profound love for each of them, a bond that was evident in her commitment to be there for every milestone, big or small. She was a constant figure at school events, sporting matches, and performances, always there to cheer them on with a camera in hand. Shelly believed in capturing every moment, filling countless photo albums with memories that her family will cherish forever. The love she had for her family, her unwavering support, and her eagerness to document every precious moment form an essential part of Shelly's enduring legacy.

She is survived by her loving husband, Jim; her parents, Len and Alice; her sister, Sandy; her children, Kristie, Matt (Andrea), and Ross (Dani); and her cherished grandchildren, Aly, Jax, Brooklyn, and Cal She was preceded in death by her dear sister, Lisa, brother in-laws Tony and Bill, and many aunts and uncles.

Shelly's memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew her, remembered for her unwavering love for her family and her selfless nature. She constantly put others before herself, a testament to her kind heart.

Visitation will take place on Thursday, August 10th from 5PM to 7PM at North Heights Lutheran Church in Arden Hills (entrance B). Shelly's celebration of life will be on Friday, August 11th at 11AM, at the same location (entrance A).
