Scott "Lucky" Lawrence, Forever in Our Hearts
Scott "Lucky" Roger Lawrence, age 66, of Andover passed away at home on May 7, 2021, freeing himself from pain and discomfort after a 20-month battle with pancreatic cancer. This was his second bout with cancer, after beating throat cancer in 2004. He was born in Worthington, MN to Roger and Lorraine (Cassens) Lawrence. He grew up in Bloomington where he adventured through the neighborhood, biked to baseball games, and proudly graduated from Bloomington Kennedy High School in 1973.
Scott found great joy working with his hands, whether remodeling a room, gardening, landscaping a yard, playing baseball, bowling, collecting classic cars, and fixing anything that no longer worked properly. After spending 25+ years as a self-employed home remodeler where he often worked with his dad and sons, he found his 'work family' when he finished the interior of his daughter's new home built by Homes Plus Inc. Having proven his workmanship and timeliness, he worked with their clients to resolve questions and concerns until the cancer appeared followed shortly after by the pandemic closures.
Lucky #13 is now free to play baseball any time. Playing softball and then baseball throughout the years is a passion he shared with family and many friends. One of his greatest memories was playing baseball with both sons, Bryan and Brad, in the Roy Hobbs World Series in Fort Meyers, FL. Scott spent many November's over the years playing in this tournament with many teammates. Scott may have enjoyed the aftergame even more, where the team would open the coolers and gather into the night or meet up at their favorite local establishment.
Similarly he loved bowling where he would throw strikes and tip back some beers with family and friends on many teams and tournaments. He also encouraged his children and grandchildren to pursue their interests and in later years enjoyed their baseball, bowling, soccer, and volleyball games.
Scott also was an avid gardener who spent the majority of the year prepping, seeding, planting, tending, harvesting, and planning for the next planting season. He expanded their original garden to four vegetable gardens and several landscaped flower beds. He will be remembered for the best wheelbarrow rides through the yard. We enjoyed backyard family barbeques with Scott at the grill, where we will now celebrate his memory.
He taught us resilience and that there is always a way to solve every problem, if you remained patient, stepped back, reviewed the possibilities, and chose the best solution. We will deeply miss our own personal 'Hudson map' to call when we needed a shortcut, his expert guidance and help repairing something, his ability to name any classic rock tune, and his dad jokes - like when he would say "Guess Who" sings this song.
Scott is preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his wife of 23 years and companion of many more, Deborah, sons Bryan (Kate) and Brad, daughters Jolene (Todd) and Denyalle (Adam), grandchildren Jamie, Zachary, Zosh, Rhian, Isabelle, Kaia, and Liam, and brothers and sister.
