The life and legacy of Scott Lynn Weishaar

Scott Weishaar, 61, of St. Paul, Minnesota, passed away peacefully at home on Wednesday, February 18, surrounded by his loving family.

Scott was born on July 20, 1964, at Trinity Hospital in Minot, North Dakota, to Berthold and Alice Weishaar. He was raised on the Weishaar farmstead in Benedict, North Dakota, where he learned the value of hard work early — from milking cows to working the fields. Scott graduated from Max Public School in 1982, where he played saxophone in the school band and served as point guard on the varsity basketball team.

In 1987, Scott married the love of his life, Maren Nevland. His family grew with the birth of his son Jamie in 1990 and his son Casey in 1993 — two of the greatest joys of his life.

Scott devoted his career to the sign industry, working as a sign fabricator for several companies including Bacon Signs and Thompson Signs in Minot, ND, Lawrence Signs in St. Paul, MN, and Fourth Dimension in Vadnais Heights, MN. He also spent several years building oil rigs in Glenburn, North Dakota. His final position was with Quality Manufacturing in St. Paul, where he worked as a sign estimator — a role that brought him the gift of working from home and being close to those he loved most.

Scott was a man of many talents who could do or fix just about anything. Over the course of his life he was, at one time or another, a farmer, a basketball coach for both of his sons' teams, a painter, a guitar builder, a guitar tech, and the family's trusted mechanic — among so many other things. He had a deep love of music and found great joy singing in several bands, which let the free spirit in him shine.

Above all else, Scott was a family man and a protector. His heart was enormous — always ready to help others and deeply devoted to caring for his family. He had a wonderful sense of humor, a laugh that could light up a room, and a playful gift for teasing the people he loved. He will be profoundly missed.

Scott is survived by his beloved wife of 38 years, Maren Weishaar, of St. Paul, MN; his son Jamie Weishaar and daughter-in-law Shauna, of Woodbury, MN; his son Casey Weishaar, of St. Paul, MN; his mother, Alice Weishaar, of Maplewood, MN; his sister Lori Matthys and her husband Marty, of Minot, ND; his brother-in-law Chad Nevland and his wife Heather, of Alma, WI; his sister-in-law Dawn Nevland, of Minot, ND; and many beloved nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Scott was preceded in death by his father, Berthold Weishaar; his brother, Rick Weishaar; his father-in-law, Norman Nevland; and his mother-in-law, Marion Nevland.
