About Ruth

Ruth Martha Carter, 87, of Bemidji, MN died Friday, April 28, 2023 at her home.

Ruth was born August 7, 1935 in Puposky, Minnesota the daughter of Earl and Zella (Stage) Ward. She was raised and educated there.

She worked for a time at Johnson Corner Drug in Bemidji. She married Clifford Carter on Aug. 22, 1952 in Bemidji. His career in underground construction allowed their family to travel to many states, Nevada, California, Washington, DC, Wisconsin and Illinois. In the summer of 1986, they retired to Bemidji. She was truly the glue that held their large family together over the years and many locations.

She loved taking care of her family and later her grandchildren. She enjoyed watching her soaps and Wheel of Fortune. She was known for her delicious pancakes. Her door and home were always open and she had the coffee pot on for anyone who needed her.

She is survived by 7 children – Bruce (Julie) Carter of Twin Valley, MN,

Ward (Barb) Carter of Lake Geneva, WI,

Troy (Terri) Carter of Claremore, OK,

Teresa (Todd) Schlieve of Grand Forks, ND,

Bradley (Susan) Carter of Arkansas City, Kansas,

Tina Lykins of Bemidji,

Daughter-in-law Sherry Carter of Bemidji,

dear family friends Carrie (Miles) Muckala of Atkinson, WI, and Kathy Ambuehl of Bemidji,

2 sisters- Carol Haverkorn and Elverna Johnson of Columbia Falls, MN,

27 grandchildren

31 great grandchildren

She was preceded in death by her husband Clifford in 2008, her son Brad and a grandson Johnny, 3 sisters and 4 brothers.

Pastor Jim Mucerino will be officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service. Interment will be at the Island Lake/ Alaska Township Cemetery in rural Bemidji.
