About Russ

Russell "Russ" W. Johnson, age 89 of Bloomington, MN passed away peacefully in the presence of family on 12/25/2022. Russ was born on November 27, 1933 in Minneapolis. Russ graduated from Mpls South High School and then served four years in the United States Airforce. Russ married Joanne Nygren on June 7, 1958, and together they raised three children in Bloomington, MN. Russ worked for and eventually became part-owner of Hennepin-Lake Stationers before he and Joanne retired to Lake Mille Lacs in 1987. In 2014 Russ and Joanne returned to the Twin Cities and have lived at Summer House in Bloomington since 2018.

Russ was preceded in death by his parents, Leonard, and Martha Johnson. He is survived by loving wife Joanne, children; Julie King of Eagan, MN, daughter Jill (Kent) Therkelsen of Fort Myers, FL, son Jeff (Annie) Johnson of Isle, MN, and brother Robert (Sharon) Johnson of Lino Lakes, MN. Also survived by seven grandchildren, four great-grandchildren and many extended family members. Russ had many interests and talents, but more than anything, he cherished spending time with the family that he loved so much.

A private service is being planned. Interment at Fort Snelling National Cemetery.
