About Rosemary

Rosemary G. Petersen, age 93 of Bemidji, passed away March 10, 2023 at St. Luke’s Hospital Hospice unit in Duluth, MN.

She was born June 9, 1929 in Keewatin, MN to Rose and George Preblich. She was raised in Nashwauk and graduated from Greenway High School in Coleraine in 1947.

She married Burdette G. Spangenberg on May 8, 1948 in Hibbing and the couple made their home in St. Louis Park; in 1954 they moved to the Northfield area.

Rose and Bert had 4 children, Michael, Charles, Lawrence and Roberta. With her husband's failing health Rose went to work at Scheldahl in Northfield and later (in 1968) went to work at the Faribault Regional Center where she worked for 27 years before her retirement.

After the passing of her husband, Rose met and later married Ronald A. Petersen on May 1, 1976. After her retirement from the State of Minnesota, Rose and Ron enjoyed many years living on Leech Lake, spending much of their time fishing. They later moved back to south central MN where Rose had raised her children.

She enjoyed doing many crafts including playing cards, quilting, crochet and many types of needlework. She loved spending time with her family and friends and taking her grandchildren on adventures.

She was preceded in death by her parents; both of her husbands, Bert in 1970 and Ron in 2020; sons Michael in 2019 and Chuck in 1999; her brother Gerald in 2021; infant grandson, Michael Jr.; and two stepchildren, Larry Petersen and Rhonda McKenzie-Gilmore.

Rose is survived by son Larry (Renee) Spangenberg of Bemidji, daughter Roberta (Ron Roggenbauer) Spangenberg of Gilman, WI, daughter-in-law Colleen White of Northfield; grandchildren Cody (Lindsay)Bauer, Aaron (Jamie) Bauer, Nicole Spangenberg, Shauna (Dan) Llamas, Brady (Michelle) Spangenberg, and Ian (Rachel) Spangenberg; stepchildren David (Darlene)Petersen, Julie Petersen; step-grandchildren and six great grandchildren and many other family and friends.

Will be held in the spring at Autumn Hills Assisted Living in Bemidji, where Rose has lived for the past 5 years.
