Roger's Life

Roger Moore, beloved brother, husband, father, grandfather of five, coach, and friend, went home to be with the Lord on February 17, 2026.

Roger was born prematurely at home on November 8, 1946, weighing just two pounds, five ounces. His early arrival came unexpectedly after his mother fell while caring for another child with scarlet fever. Roger was placed in a shoebox on an oven door to keep him warm, a fragile beginning that made his long life nothing short of a miracle.

The baby of the family, Roger grew into a popular and athletic young man. He loved sports and played college basketball, later coaching community basketball for decades. His quiet encouragement and steady presence shaped countless young players.

Roger attended four years of college as a psychology major. He began his career in banking at age seventeen, meeting co-worker Karen Wiedenbein at age twenty-eight. He proposed to Karen by slipping a ring into a Cracker Jack box, and they were married on his birthday in 1975. They had two daughters, Brandy and Brittany.

Roger became a Christian in 2002 after attending Eastside Christian Church with his family, beginning a sincere walk of faith that sustained him through the rest of his years.

He is remembered most for his kindness, laid-back spirit, gentle encouragement, love for sports, and steady devotion to his family. His life was marked not by loud achievements but by quiet faithfulness that leaves a deep imprint on those who knew him.

Roger was preceded in death by his parents, Gene Moore and Mary Frances Moore, and his brother, Jack Moore. He is survived by his wife, Karen Moore; his daughters, Brandy Nicks and Brittany Casseday; and his cherished grandchildren, Cambree, Crew, Cora, Lucy, and Jude.
