life story

Roger Ford Bodine was guided and welcomed to his new home in Heaven on September 15, 2026, leaving behind a legacy of laughter and kindness, he was 87. Roger was surrounded by and cared for by his family at home for a few weeks prior, which was a great blessing for all.

Roger was born on April 17, 1939, in St Paul, Minnesota to Dorothea (Temme) and Ford Bodine. He was the eldest of their 3 boys. He lived in St. Paul and Scandia before settling down in Forest Lake. He graduated from Forest Lake Senior High in 1957. He married Janet on October 15, 1960.

Everyone knew Roger and you were always greeted with a smile. He had a great sense of humor and classic one liners. He loved kids and was always the one joining in their fun instead of watching them. He had a passion for cars and became a mechanic, eventually opening his own business, Rogers Auto then Rogers Rod Shop. He was generous, especially with his time and talents, never wanted to charge people much for his work and always willing to help someone. He had lunch with a group of guys several times a week and often car shows on the weekends, which was very important to him.

He had many interests including hunting, trap shooting, fishing, country dancing, traveling, and especially classic cars – hot rods. He always volunteered or headed up anything he became involved with. He ran the Forest Lake Sportsmen’s Club, Gun Safety Trainer, President of Northern Lights Car Club, Spinners Car Club, MSRA Safety Inspector, MSRA 50’s Director of club spots and sanitation, coached his kid’s sports, chaperoned a trip to Lake Placid Olympics for Donna to skate in the opening ceremonies, and so much more.

Roger was an amazing husband to his wife Janet (Iverson), a loving father who was very proud, involved, wanting to give them everything and always worrying about them, daughters - Teri-Jo Kohler (Scott), Donna Roach (Mike), Cindy Nielsen (Jeff), son - John Bodine (Heather). He loved being a grandpa and great papa to his 14 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren, and they loved being with him.

He is preceded in death by his infant son Scott, parents Dorothea and Ford, brothers Bob and Donald and many other relatives and friends.

We will honor Roger and his well lived life on Friday October 2, 2026, at Maranatha Assembly of God Church – 24799 Forest Blvd N, Forest Lake, MN. Visitation will begin at 10:00 AM, followed by his Celebration of Life Service at 11:00 AM, with lunch immediately after.
