Rob Sherman (1954-2021)

Robert "Bobby" Scott Sherman was a loving father, brother, uncle, friend and colleague. He left the world on October 24th, 2021 at the age of 67 in his home away from "home" of Minneapolis, MN, surrounded by his family. He remained valiant and courageous in recent years in the midst of serious health issues, with a steadfast hope that he would overcome.

He was born on June 15th, 1954 in Queens, NY to an overjoyed Maureen and Joseph Sherman. Nearly six years later, they welcomed his adoring sister Wendy, rounding out the family's "American Dream." Robby spent his childhood in Deer Park, NY always looking for a good time and spinning up trouble at every chance he could crack. During high school, the family moved to Cherry Hill, NJ, where Rob spent his junior and senior years garnering popularity among both the east and west sides.

In search for direction of his young life, he spent a short time on the Kibbutz Nir Am in southern Israel, before making his way back to New Jersey. He attended Camden County College, before he found a career that met his zest for people, sales, socializing, and looking good, and subsequently moved to New York City. He found himself immersed by the garment industry and stayed until 1989. It was at that time he found himself at a crossroads, and decided to move to Minnesota to pursue a healthier lifestyle.

In 1990, shortly after his transition to the Midwest, his first child, Ally, was born. It was in his third and last marriage that sons Josh (1994) and Sam (1995) came to Earth, and through these three, his purpose was redefined. He achieved a great level of success in automotive sales throughout the Twin Cities, becoming a recognizable name in the community during his 21-year career. In 2013, the onset of his health challenges prompted his exit from the industry that he'd grown to love and excel in. As a result of this life change, his priority became wholly focused around the relationships with his children and former long-time partner, Kerrie.

In his remaining years, he became internally reflective, and strove to impress upon Josh and Sam the wisdom he had gleaned from his past experiences. He had a great capacity for love and used humor to make light of his hardships and life's unpredictability.

He will always be remembered for his warmth, charm, wit, awesome hugs, impeccable sense of style, and his affinity for dogs. He was a diehard Giants fan through and through (despite working a hotdog stand at Eagles' games in his youth), loved throwing the football with his boys, and so often laughed until he cried.

Rob is survived by his daughter Ally Laird, sons Josh and Sam Sherman, sister Wendy (John) Silvers, niece Joie-May, cousins Ronnie and Ross Merken, and aunt Dale Merken. He was preceded in death by parents Joseph and Maureen Sherman.

A Celebration of Life will be held for Rob at The Gallery Room (3700 Monterey Dr, St. Louis Park, MN 55416) on Friday, October 29th between 10am-12pm, and for those who cannot attend, a Zoom link to join virtually can be provided upon request.
