About Rick
It is with heavy hearts and deep love that we announce the passing of Richard Scott Rekstad, who died on September 29, 2025, in Robbinsdale, Minnesota, at the age of 56.
Rick was born on December 13, 1968, at Fairview Southdale Hospital in Edina, Minnesota, and grew up in Champlin. He spent his entire life in the Twin Cities area, a place he loved and called home.
Rick began his working life with a number of different jobs, but found early purpose and joy working at Dave’s Sport Shop in Maple Grove. He later went on to spend a significant part of his career at Circuit Check, also in Maple Grove, where he held several roles over the years, most recently working in sales. Rick took pride in his work and was known for his dedication, professionalism, and friendly demeanor.
A lifelong sports enthusiast, Rick especially loved hockey, but was just as passionate about football, baseball, and just about any game on TV. He also enjoyed following the sports and activities his nieces were involved in, and while he couldn’t always be there in person, he cared deeply and supported them whenever he could.
Rick also found peace and joy in the outdoors, whether he was out hunting, fishing, or simply spending time in nature. These passions were not just hobbies but core parts of who he was, a man who found connection, joy, and meaning in both the quiet moments and the shared experiences.
He will be remembered most for his humor, kindness, generosity, and sharp wit. Rick had a special way of making people laugh and feel at ease. He gave freely of his time and heart, never hesitating to lend a hand or share a smile.
Rick is survived by his father, Paul Peterson, and his brothers, Derek Rekstad and Curt Rekstad (Jackie). He was a beloved uncle to Abby, Ally, Anna, Ava, Kari, and Elin Rekstad, and a cherished cousin to Carrie, Beth, and Matt. He is also survived by his aunt, Carol McMullen, as well as many additional cousins, extended family members, friends, and coworkers whose lives were brightened by knowing him.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Sandra Kay Rekstad, and his cousin, Patrick.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, October 18, 2025, from 1:00 to 5:00 PM in the Blue Heron Room at Chomonix Golf Course in Lino Lakes. All are welcome to join in honoring and remembering Rick.
