Richard Lee Kappedal, 80, of McIntosh, formerly of Lengby, MN died on November 19, 2024, at McIntosh Senior Living.

Richard Lee Kappedal was born July 17, 1944 in Roseburg, Oregon to Berendt Sr. and Earla Mae (Palmer) Kappedal. They made their home in Roseburg until Berendt was discharged from the military. They moved back to Minnesota where Richard was raised with his 4 brothers and 1 sister.

Richard was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith. He had a friendship with God for many years.

In 1965 he married Sharon Onsager. They lived out in the country, south of Lengby for many years. Richard resided at McIntosh Senior Living from 2013 to the present. Richard and Sharon were blessed with 4 children, all born within five years, (1966 to 1971).

Richard loved the outdoors and simple things in life. Farming, logging and tinkering in his shop were his favorite things to do. He loved collecting guns and casting his own bullets, while listening to old time country music on his radio. He looked forward to going to Rollag and the Pioneer Farmers, where he went every year with his three brothers. He was an animal lover, but especially loved dogs and horses.

Richard had Dementia in his later years, but seemed to be in a happy place in his mind. His siblings and bachelor uncle’s, Olaf and Reuben, were mentioned often. While in the nursing home, he would often appear to be doing some type of mechanical work, something he has loved doing all his life. From a young age, he was a very brilliant, self-taught mechanic.

Richard and Sharon were inseparable from the time that she was 17 and he was 20. For the last 11 years, she has faithfully visited him almost everyday that he has been in the nursing home.

Richard will be greatly missed, but is free once again. As it says in Luke 23: 42 and 43; Then he said, “Jesus, remember me when you come into your Kingdom.” Jesus answered him “Truly, I tell you, today you will be with me in Paradise.”

Richard is survived by his wife, Sharon; children, Darren (Karen) Kappedal, Brenda (Ron) Knable, Debbie (Mike) Manecke, and Ricky Kappedal; grandchildren, Melissa (Kurt), Kyle (Daytona), Paul (Mandy), Morgan, Trista (Brandon), Blake (Emily), Alyssa (Jamin), Kayla (Lee), Jenna (Nolan), Andrew (Brittany), and Amber (Derrick); 13 great-grandchildren; and siblings, Berendt Jr. Kappedal, Carl (Anita) Kappedal, and Jo Ann Aiken.

He is preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Gary and Patrick; daughter-in-law, Teresa Kappedal; and brother-in-law, Ray; and sister-in-law’s Diane and Sharon.

Pastor Mark Erickson will be officiating. A visitation will be held one hour prior to the service. Interment will be held at Lengby Village Cemetery in Lengby, Minnesota.
