In Memory of Rebecca (Becky) Boshard
Rebecca Boshard (Becky) was born April 21, 1950 in Salt Lake City, Utah to James R. Boshard and Helen C. Boshard. She died at home in Weatherby Lake, Missouri on April 8, 2025 with family at her side.
The second of five children, Becky was free-spirited with a determination to break the societal norms of what was generally accepted for young girls of her generation. Growing up in Durango, Colorado, winters were spent skiing at the nearby ski hill, and summers were spent fishing, camping, and taking care of and riding horses. Becky was introduced to the excitement of rodeos and wanted to ride a calf just like boys her age. Despite her mother's worry, a fearless, determined and grinning 10-year old Becky mounted and successfully rode a calf to the buzzer in the Durango fairgrounds. When Becky was 11, the family moved to Denver, Colorado. She excelled in her school work, continued to ski and was generally adventurous. She graduated from Cherry Creek High School in 1968. She attended the University of Utah where she studied Health Sciences and graduated in 1974. Her passion for skiing continued through college.
Becky was remarkably intelligent and innovative. Committed to progressing the future of healthcare information systems, her focus and priority was her career. She cared for her teams and co-workers, learning together, facing challenges, assignments, and deadlines supporting one another. In her early career she was as an Assistant VP in Management Information Systems for ARUP Laboratories in Salt Lake City.
In 1991, Becky was recruited by the Cerner Corporation, a new, cutting-edge software company in health care information technology, and moved to Kansas City, Missouri. She worked as a Director and Consulting Project Architect, overseeing and mentoring hundreds of consultants and developers. She, along with many others, contributed to immense growth and success of the company. Continuing to share and advance in her extensive data systems knowledge, she spent over 17 years with University of Kansas Health System as a Senior Application Analyst. Her dedication and work continued while battling cancer until just before her death.
Becky delighted in sharing stories of her youthful adventures, as well as her desire to make a difference in the world of health and technology. She loved nature and horses— one of her passions was watching horse races each year and "picking horses" with family members. She knew the stories and was enthusiastic about races. A highlight for her was attending the Kentucky Derby one year. A fierce fan of the Kansas City Chiefs and Kansas City Royals, Becky arranged her schedule to watch games without interruption. She followed trades and stats, knew football and baseball rules and joked about being an announcer/analyst one day. Becky was generous, sending surprises and heart-felt gifts. Her nephews and niece looked forward to opening their own "Becky Box" curated especially for them at Christmas. Lovingly wrapped packages were filled with homemade caramel popcorn balls, chocolate coins, silly pajama pants or boxers, a crisp $100 bill, puzzles, or the latest and greatest tech toy. She was a wonderful sister, aunt, friend, and mentor. We miss her dearly.
She is survived by her brother Dave Boshard, (Dayna), sister Cynthia Boshard, brother Jon Boshard (Chris), and sister Lisa Boshard and her nephews, Dylan, Julian, Ian, and Tyler and her niece, Sienna.
