Raymond Francis Reitan, 85, of Northome, MN died on March 27, 2024 at Sanford Medical Center in Bemidji, MN.

Raymond was born February 11, 1940 near Island Lake. He attended Cunningham School until his family moved to Minneapolis where he continued his schooling, graduating from Central High School in 1958.

He attended St. Cloud State University graduating with a Bachelor of Science degree in Speech Therapy. He joined the Navy as an officer and spent several years serving in the US Navy. He was stationed in Guam and also served on a ship moving troops between Vietnam and the US west coast. He was a strong advocate for veteran’s benefits for other veterans.

Raymond served on the Ardenhurst Township Board for many years where he wrote over two dozen grants to benefit the township. He worked tirelessly in helping the Ardenhurst Township Community Park become a reality. He was a past member of the VFW Post 3869 in Northome. He loved discussing politics and looked upon politics as a spectator sport! He enjoyed gardening and spending time with family.

He is survived by his sisters, Donna Dale of Stillwater and Kathleen Reitan of Minneapolis; a brother, Richard Reitan and Mary Pat of Stillwater; sister-in-law, Juneal Reitan of Bemidji; and numerous loving nephews and nieces, especially niece Heidi Pehrson.

Raymond was preceded in death by his parents, Oscar and Vivian (Eldred) Reitan; and siblings, Muriel Nelson, Eldred, Hobart, and Robert Reitan, and Carolyn Pehrson.
