About Priscilla

Priscilla Ann Bloomfield was born April 7, 1949, to Paul and Jeanette Stacy in Yukon, West Virginia. A week after her birth, Jeanette passed away from a battle with pneumonia. Ralph and Myrtle Furches adopted Priscilla and lovingly cared for her as their fifth child.

Priscilla grew up in a tight-knit community of coal mining families in Yukon, West Virginia. She truly was a coal miner’s daughter. She was raised to know both sets of brothers and sisters from the Furches and Stacy families. She graduated from Big Creek High School in War, West Virginia, and later moved to Ohio with her then-husband, Carl Bloomfield, where she gave birth to her only child, her daughter, Melanie. While living in Ohio, Priscilla worked in a factory and drove a school bus. She continued to live near many of her Furches brothers and sisters and parents, who had all relocated from West Virginia.

In 1977, Priscilla moved with her small family to Houston, Texas. One of the first jobs she secured in Texas was as a baker for the Kroger grocery store. She worked there for many years, as many of the Furches' family members migrated to Houston and actually began working alongside her at Kroger. Although physically demanding, it was a well-suited job for Priscilla because she loved to bake and cook, often making her famously known Ribbon Cake for family gatherings, No-Bake Cookies for Melanie on many requested occasions, teaching her grandson, Stevie, how to make biscuits from scratch, and constantly frying up bacon for her granddaughter, Haylee. Priscilla went on to work several jobs after being a baker. She again drove a bus for Klein ISD and, after earning a two-year business degree, worked for First Health, which later became Aetna Healthcare, until retirement. There, she made friendships with her co-workers, many of whom she kept in touch with even after her retirement. Of all the jobs Priscilla had over the years, her most precious and valued was being a MeMaw to her two beloved grandchildren, Stevie and Haylee.

Although Priscilla lived independently in The Woodlands, Texas, for many years in small apartments decorated in her favorite color, purple, with butterfly accents, she entered the loving home of Mark and Melissa Cone for the remainder of her days, where she passed away. This home was familiar to her because she had owned and lived in it in Spring, Texas, for many years before selling it to her niece, Melissa.

Priscilla is preceded in death by her parents, Ralph and Myrtle Furches; her brother, Kenneth (Delores); her brother, Wesley (Betty); her sister, Helen Schweingruber (Clifford- still living); and her sister, Roberta June Wright (Charles “Jabo”-still living). She is also preceded in death by her biological parents, Paul and Jeanette Stacy, her sister, Carmen Thornsbury, her sister, Mary Thornsbury, and her half-sister, Ethyl Hersey. Her loving memory will continue with her daughter, Melanie Smith (Greg), her grandchildren, Stephen Smith, Jr., and Haylee Smith, as well as her half-brothers and half-sisters, Paul, Ralph, Tom, Tim, Sally, and Richmond, and her many nieces and nephews.

Priscilla's remains will be laid to rest in the Stansbury Family Cemetery in Corbin, Kentucky, next to her mother and father, Ralph and Myrtle Furches.
