life story
Our beautiful angel
It broke our hearts to lose you, but you did not go alone, for part of us went with you, the day God called you home……
About Phyllis
A beacon of kindness, patience, and unwavering optimism, passed away unexpectedly at her home in Plymouth, MN on July 4, 2025, at the age of 88.
Phyllis was preceded in death by her parents, Pete and Clara Nielsen and brother Jim Nielsen.
She will be truly missed by Lee, her loving husband of 64 years; son Randy (Susan); daughter Wendy Palaia (Nick); grandchildren Cedar and Lauren Palaia; brother “Bud” Nielsen (Susan), brother Jerry Nielsen, and sister Barbara Couture; nieces and nephews and many friends.
Phyllis grew up in St. Paul, one mile from Como Park. She attended Murray High School and Mankato State University where she obtained her four-year teaching degree.
She taught elementary school for four years in Robbinsdale and two years in Mound. When Wendy was born she became a stay-at-home mom and later worked in customer service at Bertelson Brothers Office Supplies for 22 years.
Phyllis met her husband, Lee, in Mound MN while teaching.
Together they traveled to many beautiful destinations:
Spain, bus trips to Washington DC and Lake Louise Canada, two Alaskan cruises, and several trips to their favorite places - Cancun, Florida, California, Hawaii, and Arizona.
Phyllis found vast enjoyment being with others and dearly loved her family and friends. Her favorite activities were golfing, playing cards and games, shopping and watching the Vikings, Twins & golf tournaments on TV.
Being a teacher at heart she was extremely organized, always willing to help and liked planning get-togethers. Phyllis loved coffee and dessert -a true “Dane” they say and many referred to her being “like a sister”.
Phyllis was dedicated to her family and was her son’s, daughter’s and grandchildren’s biggest cheerleader; always taking great pleasure in their accomplishments/activities/interests.
Como Park Zoo & Conservatory and the Minnesota State Fair held a special place in her heart.
Phyllis was golfing, shopping and playing cards up to the day of her passing. Her smile, positivity, and love will be missed by all who were blessed to know her.
The Lord received our beautiful angel; until one day we meet her again.
We sure miss you wife, mom, grandma, sister, Aunt and friend ❤️
