About Perleta Greenwood
Perleta Dixon Greenwood, affectionately known as Sista Perl or Mama, was born on May 17, 1938, to Anita Harris and Henry Dixon in the community of Darling Spring, St. Catherine. Raised with a deep reverence for God, Perleta was influenced by her father, Mr. Dixon, who was an active deacon in the Church of God Seventh Day in Darling Spring.
In her early years, she attended Harewood Elementary School. At the age of sixteen, she began her first job as a domestic helper in Kingston. During her youth, Perleta became a mother to two boys, Clive and Oswald, after which she returned to her home community.
A few years later, Perleta met the love of her life, Mr. Constantine Greenwood. Mr. Greenwood did not waste any time before proposing to Perl, making her his wife on January 16, 1963. She dedicated her life to the Lord at her home church, where she and her husband played active roles. The couple became parents to 11 children: five boys and six girls but sadly, they lost three of their children at a young age.
During her senior year, Perleta worked briefly on the Orange Walk farm; after that, she retired and enjoyed her years as a housewife. In 2011, she became a widow after her husband passed away due to a prolonged illness.
Perl was well-known for her kindness, often feeding those who came to her home, even if it meant giving away her last meal.
In the latter part of her life, Perl spent her days surrounded by her children, grandchildren, church brethren, and friends, all of whom loved her dearly.
The memories of our beloved Perleta, Sister Perl, and Mama will live on in each of our hearts until we meet her again.
