Paul H. Van Syckel

February 10, 1946 – January 6, 2025

Blaine, MN, USA

Paul Henry Van Syckel passed away peacefully on January 6, 2025, in White Bear Lake, Minnesota. He was 78 years old. Born on February 10, 1946, in Newark, New Jersey, Paul spent the majority of his life in Bricktown, NJ. During retirement, he embraced the warmth of Delray Beach, FL and Myrtle Beach, SC.

Paul was a devoted father to Michele (Shawn) Palme of Blaine, MN and Lia (Joe) Morris of Point Pleasant, NJ. He took immense pride in being a grandfather to Justin Mato, Dylan Mato, Sean Lennon, Kristi Lennon, Carson Mato, and Thomas Morris. He is also survived by his close friend and former son-in-law George Mato, his brother-in-law Angelo DeTata, and many nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his parents, Mary Elizabeth and William Van Syckel; his sisters Marietta, Carolyn, Diana, Louise, and Elva; and his brothers William, Stanley, and John.

Paul found great joy in simple pleasures like yard work and fishing. He had a gift for making others smile and always had a story or joke ready that could leave those around him in stitches.

He also had a deep passion for horse racing—a pastime that brought him countless hours of excitement at the track. To honor this love, a celebration of life will be held this summer on July 26th at Monmouth Park Racetrack in Oceanport, NJ. The "Paul Van Syckel Memorial" race will be held in his honor on that day. Those wishing to attend are encouraged to contact Vansyckelfamily@gmail.com to RSVP.

May Paul’s memory bring comfort to those who knew him and serve as a lasting example of how to live life to the fullest, with joy.
