Obituary
Paul Gerber, 76, of Sarasota, Florida, transitioned to new life in the home of his son and surrounded by family after a courageous 4 year battle with cancer. Paul was born January 11th, 1945 to Bernhard C. Gerber and Emma Hawe in St. Paul, Minnesota and attended Central High School, followed by the University of Minnesota. He served as a medic in the Army Reserves from 1964 to 1972. Paul is survived by his devoted partner of 20 years, Gail Lewis; son Dan Gerber and his wife Anne; grandchildren, Ada (17) and Hazel Gerber (14) of Stillwater, Minnesota; sister Mimi Kane (Larry); brothers, Tim (Donna) and Dave (Carole) Gerber, along with many nieces, great nieces - nephews and cherished friends in both Minnesota and Sarasota, Florida.
Paul and Gail moved to Sarasota in 2004, after his 34 year career in the insurance business. They traveled yearly to Stillwater, Minnesota for extended stays to visit with family and friends. Paul was an active and devoted member of Alcoholics Anonymous (AA) for 43 years, and a lover of baseball, puzzles, cars, boats, and his granddaughters. He enjoyed many adventures over the years boating on the St. Croix river and the intercoastal waters of the Gulf. Paul cherished his family and friends and had a unique gift of pulling people together. He was known by all to instigate the next adventure, with his motto for life being, "do what makes you happy". Paul was a living example of this and will be carried on in our hearts as we follow our happiness. Donations honoring Paul's life can be gifted to Lakeview Hospice or a charity of your choice.
