Patricia Turbes-Mohs

Pat was the eldest of six children born September 17, 1947 to Janet (Murphy) and Sylvester Turbes of Saint Paul, Minnesota.

She grew up in a close-knit neighborhood filled with college and high school professors inspiring a curious mind from day 1. After attending St. Mark's Catholic School, Our Lady of Peace High School and graduating from the College of St. Catherine, Pat was eager to spread her wings to New York City as a researcher for Time-Life books. For 17 years, Pat created a home with her husband, Mayo Mohs, and children Matthew and Clare. She particularly loved the opportunities they had to travel throughout the US and Europe, including annual returns to Minnesota, ensuring her children got to know her extended Turbes and Murphy families as well as Mayo's Benepe and Mohs families.

When she returned to St. Paul in 1986, Pat established her own home in her childhood neighborhood of Shadow Falls. While Pat pursued several professional fields, she ultimately became a social studies teacher like her father, teaching in both Catholic and Saint Paul Public Schools. She viewed learning history as essential to fully understand the awe-inspiring connections of humanity while the learning and practicing of civics is not only a right of every American, but a duty. (Pat asked you remember her by being sure to vote!)

More than any other role or title for Pat, none was more important than that of Mom and as time and God allowed, Grandma Nana. Regardless of any pains or trials, Pat always had a hug, a kiss, and a supportive word. She was ALWAYS available for her loved ones and loved to stay connected through any and all means. Pat loved to cook and host for family and friends near and far, continuing to do so until her final days. For three years, she bravely fought an aggressive oral cancer despite regular setbacks. Her courage and strength allowed her to spend more time with family and friends until she succumbed peacefully in her home on May 22, 2024.

Matthew (Meghan), Alexander and Abigail Mohs and Clare (Dean), Daniel and Annika Shavor will do their best to continue her legacy of unconditional love.

Pat will be deeply missed by her siblings, Liz (Carleton) McCambridge, Tom (Gillian), Cathy and Teresa Turbes, niece Katherine Turbes and many cousins and friends. She was preceded in death by her mother Janet, father Sylvester, sister Regina, ex-husband Mayo, and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins who all held special places in her heart.

Pat and her family are grateful to Our Lady of Peace Hospice and St. Thomas More Catholic Community for the spiritual and physical care she received from them. All the aides, nurses and doctors who cared for her throughout her care are remembered kindly.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 AM on Friday, July 19, 2024 at St. Thomas More Catholic Church in Saint Paul. A visitation will be held prior beginning at 10 AM and all who knew and loved Pat are invited to attend.
