life story
A Loving Wife, Mother, and Nana to three special grandkids
Patricia (Patti) Ellen Berglund, age 71, of St. Paul, MN passed away on April 11, 2025 surrounded by her husband and her two children. Preceded in death by her parents Joe and Ellen Tetzloff of Janesville, MN. Survived by her husband, John; son, Aaron (Melissa) and daughter, Leah Gardner (Chris); and three grandchildren, Charlie and Madeline Berglund, and Caleb Gardner. Patti has 3 siblings; Steve Tetzloff, Mary (Mike) Burke, and Karen (Mark) Elland.
Patti was born on in 1954 and grew up in Janesville MN. She attended Janesville K12 schools, graduating in 1972. She then went to the University of Minnesota and graduated in 1976 with a degree in Adolescent Psychology. Patti and John met in 1976 in Minneapolis. John was living in Colorado and Patti moved there to join him in 1977. She and John married May 21, 1977 in Littleton, CO. Aaron was born in December of 1978. Patti and John then moved to Greeley, CO in 1979 and Leah was born there in 1980. They moved to Mondovi, WI in 1984 and lived there until 2010 when they moved to St. Paul, MN.
Patti spent many years being a librarian, She served several years as director of Mondovi Public Library followed by roles in 3 county library systems after moving to St. Paul and obtaining her Master of Library Science in 2010. She then became a substitute reference librarian for Ramsey County Library, retiring in 2021.
Patti loved reading and was in numerous book groups throughout her life. She was active in a women's group in Mondovi that ventured out on hikes including the Superior Hiking Trail on the North Shore in Minnesota. Patti loved going to county, regional, and state parks and hiking along the trails. She also loved going to Clearwater Lodge off the Gunflint Trail near the Boundary Waters Canoe Area, where she loved sitting on the porch with a cup of coffee looking out at the beautiful lake.
When her first grandchild was born in 2009, the decision to move from WI to MN was an easy one. Coming to MN and being close by as 2 more grandkids came along was a highlight in her life. Seeing her eyes light up in the presence of her grandkids was joyful to her whole family.
The cancer diagnosis came in the fall of 2021 and Patti battled bravely until the end. While it slowed her down over time, she still maintained the fierce will to get out and do things, still traveling a bit and spending time with her family. She joined "Women in Retirement" at Unity Church Unitarian in the last few years of her life and loved getting together there.
Patti had a sharp wit, was a loving and accepting person, with a welcoming nature. She will be missed by her family and many friends and family members.
