Patricia Jean "Pat" Westrud
February 25, 1931 – September 3, 2021
Westrud, Patricia J. “Pat” age 90, of New Brighton passed away on September 3, 2021 at Haven Homes in Maple Plain, MN. Pat was born on February 25, 1931 to Clyde and Leona Williamson in Two Rivers, Wisconsin. As a child Pat was always up to something, including but not limited to falling through the ice on Lake Michigan (she pulled herself back up), bringing home dead animals she found in the woods (much to her parent’s dismay), and setting two fires (both accidental, of course). Pat worked as a school librarian until she married DeWayne Westrud on July 14,1955, and moved to the Twin Cities. She later moved to New Brighton where she lived in her own home until the age of 90. Pat graduated in 1984 from Minneapolis Community College with a Chemical Dependency Certificate. She also regularly volunteered as a peer counselor for the St. Paul Society for the Blind. Pat was an avid reader and knitter, and could rarely be seen wearing something besides a sweater she made herself. She had an adventurous spirit and loved cats, dogs, and geology. She loved to laugh and always had a funny story (or ten) to tell. Pat was preceded in death by her parents, Clyde and Leona; husband, DeWayne; and son, Wayne. She is survived by her son, Michael; daughter, Melissa; and grandchildren, Brianna, Reece, and Sierra. Pat’s wit, sass, and bluntness will be missed by everyone who knew her. A celebration of Pat’s life will be held at 11am on November 15th at Fort Snelling National Cemetery.
