About Nina

Nina Killmer, 70, of Northome, MN died Thursday, October 26, 2023 at Majestic Pines in Grand Rapids, MN.

Nina was born on May 13, 1953, in Littlefork, MN, the daughter of Walter and June (Gowdy) Nelson, the 9th of 9 children. She attended grade school in Big Falls, and then graduated from Littlefork-Big Falls High School in 1971. She married David Killmer on December 20, 1980, and they made their home in Big Falls, MN. She held various jobs in the 80s, although she spent the majority of her time raising 3 children. The family moved to Island Lake in Northome, MN in 1993, where she enjoyed coffee time and visiting with neighbors. She also worked at Soder’s Meats for some time.

She survived a brain aneurysm in July 2000, which changed her life in many ways. She continued to live life to the fullest despite the difficulties she faced.

In her early years, Nina enjoyed camping, gardening, and spending time with family and friends. In her later years, she enjoyed baking cookies, word search puzzles, watching her favorite TV shows (“The Golden Girls” and “Gunsmoke”) and going for car rides with the “Cool Dude.”

Nina had a heart of gold, and a huge love for her family. She had the most wonderful personality, with a fierce stubbornness, and an unparalleled sense of humor that helped her get through the tough times! Nina was very personable and could strike up a conversation about anything, with anyone, anywhere!

She is survived by her husband, David Killmer of Northome; 3 children, David Killmer of Northome, Lindsey (Henry) Harkreader of Duluth, and Derek Killmer of Northome; 4 grandchildren, Jaiden, Andrea, Lillianna, and Henry; 3 great-grandchildren; 3 sisters, Darlene (Harvey) Newlander of Nevis, MN, Betty Hollan of Oak Grove, MN, and Karen Duggan of Glenwood, AK. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews, cousins, and many special friends she has known throughout her life.

She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Butch, Walt, Billy, and Frank Nelson; a sister, Kathy Nordstrom; a grandson, Nathan Anderson-Harkreader; and her special “grand dog” Dakota.
