Ned Schoephoerster
February 26, 1966 – March 28, 2023
Circle Pines, MN 55014, USA
Ned Donald Schoephoerster, age 57, passed away during a surgical procedure, 3/28/2023. Ned is preceded in death by his parents, Geraldine and Dr. Hugh Schoephoerster; sister, Shawna Schoephoerster; grandparents, Theodore and Gladys Prieb, and Clarence and Elsie Schoephoerster; in-laws, Marise and Larry Losness.
While born in St. Cloud, MN, Ned grew up in Anoka, MN graduating from high school there in 1984. He attended St. Olaf College (class of '88) earning his BA in English and the University of Northern Colorado-Greeley (UNC) earning his MA in Elementary Education.
Ned met his wife, Sally (Losness), during their later years at St. Olaf and an immediate friendship, companionship, and partnership ensued. He was the yin to her yang, and they enjoyed daily routines, peccadillos, laughter, and numerous adventures over their 31+ years of marriage. Their love for one another was incomparable.
Ned's greatest accomplishment and joy was welcoming his 3 boys in to this world, nurturing them in to adulthood, and imparting his wonderful personality and humor in to each of them. He had tremendous pride watching them mature with characteristics he possessed and prioritized--kindness, friendliness, loyalty, intelligence, wittiness...and, a heart with the capacity to love many. Ned defined what it means to provide unconditional love.
Ned touched the lives of many over the years--close friends including those established at St. Olaf, students and colleagues in the Anoka-Hennepin School district where he taught 30+ years at LO Jacob and Monroe Elementary, neighbors, parents and peers of his children in the Centennial School District via coaching and supporting his children in their various sports/activities, and numerous others.
Ned is survived by Sally and his beloved children: Samuel of Wausau, WI; Carl and wife, Sabrina, residing in Milwaukee, WI; and Wyatt of Circle Pines, MN with his significant other, Maddi Hafner, of Stillwater, MN. In addition, he is survived by his sister, Kristin Schoephoerster (David West) of Minneapolis, MN; brother, Dr. Paul (Lisa) Schoephoerster of Fayette, MO; sister-in-law, Laurie (Chuck) Luman of Cottage Grove, MN; aunts, cousins, nieces, and nephews.
Ned, you had so many gifts, talents, and interests. You were an incredible writer of our annual Christmas letter; a voracious reader always willing to have a discussion and share a recommendation; the collector of autograph's (favorite authors or sports figure); a devoted solver of the daily Strib/NYT crossword puzzle; a competitive contender of cribbage and Yahtzee and the always-desired partner in Trivia Pursuit; an avid supporter and spectator of all sports (especially Minnesota teams, notably the Gopher's); an often-heard quoter of move/sitcom lines; a 'world famous' grill master of BBQ chicken and ribs...and so much more.
Ned, you are one-of-a-kind and you always put a smile on your wife's face. You lit up your boys' and wife's life every single day with your light. We love you to the moon and back, you will never be forgotten, and your legacy lives with your children!
A special thank you to Ned's medical support team throughout the years, including: Dr. Garr, Dr. Florence, Dr. Hoffman, Dr. Soffelt, Dr. Coselli, Dr. Huddleston, Dr. Pullen, Dr. Faizer, Dr. Andrade, Dr. Williams, Dr. Riedel...and the many nurses and health care professionals providing daily care to so many.
