A loving husband, father, and grandfather
William Edward Johnson, Jr. known by his family and friends as Ned, was born on January 29, 1937 in Durham, NC. Ned left us on January 10, 2022, at his home in Maricopa, AZ. He was preceded in death by his parents, Eddie and Inez, and his daughter Lois. He is missed by his wife Debbie, sons Bill and Peter (Eleanor), daughter Ginny (Rawhide), and grandchildren Marc, Mary, Hannah, Benjamin, and David Johnson.
Ned spent most of his life in Roanoke, VA before retiring to Arizona. He is a graduate of Hargrave Military Academy in Chatham, VA and later served as Chairman of the Board at this institute. Ned was known as an analytical businessman who was innovative in his thinking, and he was always thinking of ways to improve his businesses. He grew Johnson Foods, Inc. into a company spanning multiple states, operated a successful Angus cattle farm, and continued his legacy when he created Johnson Investments, Inc. He was a true southern gentleman, always friendly and courteous. Ned was a loving father and an amazing husband.
A Celebration of Life is scheduled for Sunday, March 6, 2022 at Hotel Roanoke’s Shenandoah Room from 2 pm to 4 pm. Join us as we share favorite memories, our stories, to laugh, to cry and to remember a special man who is greatly missed.
