Neal Hanson, 78, of Shevlin, Minnesota, died on Tuesday, December 14, 2021 at Altru Health Systems in Grand Forks, North Dakota.

Neal was born in Fosston, MN, May 19, 1943, son of Henry and Louise Hanson. Shortly after he graduated High School, he enlisted in the Air Force and was honorably discharged in February of 1962. He was a member of the Shevlin Fire Department for 28 years and also the Shevlin City Council for many years. Neal worked at the Bagley Elevator when he met Sharon and got married. Together they had a son, Chad. Neal and Sharon then ran a dairy farm and did that until they started the family business, Hanson’s Greenhouse in 1985. He later got divorced and ran the business with his son until he retired in 2006, when Chad and Susan took over. Neal however still stayed very active in the green house even though he told everyone he was “retired” until his death. His pride and joy was his granddaughter, Rachel, who always kept him on his toes, and will be greatly missed by her.

Neal is survived by his son, Chad (Susan) Hanson of Shevlin; Donavon Keeney (Doug) of St. Louis Park, Charlene (Tim) Keeney of Shevlin; his grandchildren, Donnie (Leti) Coyle of Bagley, MN, Trever Braaten of Bagley, Rachel Hanson of Shevlin; his great grandson, Dane Coyle of Bagley; his sister, Sharon Bockwitz of Coon Rapids; and numerous nieces, nephews, and other family.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Henry and Louise Hanson; his sister, Lavonne Hanson and Helene Salvhus; and his brother, Harley Hanson.

Per Neal’s request, no services will be held.

A private family interment will be held in the spring at Shevlin City Cemetery in Shevlin, MN.
