Nancy Claire (Agan) Barber
April 17, 1935 – June 7, 2025
Windsor, Vermont
Nancy Claire (Agan) Barber passed away peacefully on June 7, 2025 after a brief illness. She had recently celebrated her 90th birthday at the Station Restaurant in Windsor, and she was able to spend her final weeks in Massachusetts on Cape Cod surrounded by her family.
Born April 17, 1935 in Lebanon, NH to Mercedes (Bennett) and Raymond Agan, she was the youngest of two children and idolized her older brother, Thomas, who pre deceased her in 2022.
Nancy loved growing up in Lebanon and always reminisced about her years there. She graduated from Lebanon High School in 1953 and following graduation enjoyed working in business offices, including AT&T, where she met her future husband.
Nancy married Dr. Robert Barber, a local chiropractor, on July 1, 1961, and together they embarked on a journey that would last 45 years until Robert’s passing in 2006. They bought a piece of land in Windsor shortly after they were married, and Robert, with the help of his father, built their home from the foundation up. Together they raised their three daughters there, and that home and those three girls became the center of Nancy’s world. Even recently when asked what life accomplishment of which she was most proud, Nancy responded, “Raising my three wonderful daughters.”
Nancy and Robert enjoyed traveling and were fortunate enough to embark on adventures that took them across the country to places like Lake Tahoe and California’s Redwood Forests, and across the globe to England, Ireland, and France.
Nancy always proclaimed that she could never be a nurse, but after raising her children, she found herself caring for her elderly mother until her death in 1993 and then caring for her husband until he lost his lengthy battle with multiple myeloma in 2006. After Robert’s passing, Nancy became fiercely independent. She took great pride in her home and loved to entertain family and friends. She was happiest when she was home, and she was grateful that she was able to live there until her final few weeks.
Nancy is survived by her three daughters: Mary Hemeon of Harwich Port, MA; Katherine Barber of Hyannis, MA; and Abigail Tighe of Littleton, NH. Nancy is also survived by her three beloved grandchildren: Michelle (Hemeon) Hassell, Amy (Hemeon) Belt, and Matthew Hemeon, as well as two great grandchildren: Emma and Caden Hassell. Nancy is also survived by a step son, Robert W. Barber, and several nieces, nephews, cousins, and close friends whom she cherished dearly. Nancy’s life was a reflection of her love for her family and friends, and she will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
A funeral Mass will take place on Friday, October 3, 2025 at 10:30am at St. Francis of Assisi church in Windsor with committal at the cemetery immediately after Mass. Because Nancy always insisted on dressing in bright, colorful clothes, we ask that you do the same at the funeral to honor her memory! Following the burial, a celebration of her life will take place in the church hall.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Habitat for Humanity.
