grandpa

thank you

for loving grandma

for loving my mom

for loving me

for every fish caught

for every hand held

for every kiss planted

you truly brought life to our family

you brought us all together

even if you were grumpy at times

i will continue to tell your jokes

remember your laugh

tell your stories to my children

everyone that knew you, loved you

and you loved them.

when you get to heaven

tell Jesus thank you

for giving us you and for being his faithful servant

you held each of us up, you prayed for us

your tears when praying will always be remembered

your songs, your voice never forgotten

your thankfulness for Jesus through every circumstance

will always be engraved in my heart

when you get to heaven

hug Christopher tight

tell him we can't wait to meet him

i love you dearly

you will always be remembered

your kindness and your love will always be shown

thank you for being my grandpa, my papa

--By Josh Palmer (Grandson)

My grandpa was jolly. His big bold laugh echoes in every family memory, right alongside his long-form jokes.

My grandpa was reckless. He grabbed burning logs out of the fire without batting an eye (except mine).

My grandpa was sweet. He cried every time he prayed over holiday meals and hugged everyone twice; once to say "I love you" and again to say "I'm so proud of you."

I remember riding in the basket of a pink tricycle as he pedaled down the road a little too fast for me.

I remember watching "Felix the Cat" and "Donut Man" and some silly Christian puppet show in his living room.

I remember singing along to verses of hymns I didn't know, jealous of his baritone tremolo.

My grandpa built homes (including his own) with his head, his heart, his hands, and his tools.

My grandpa sang songs of worship; gospel tunes from his Louisiana upbringing that rival the Gaithers.

My grandpa shared a welcoming love that was beyond his own understanding; eventually opening his stubborn arms even to people he disagreed with.

I love you, Grandpa. I'm so proud of you. You passed on a legacy of belief, compassion, music, and family to me. Now, you have accomplished your biggest goal in life–conquer death, and meet Jesus.
