Michael James Dropps, Sr.

We are deeply saddened to announce the passing of Michael James Dropps Sr, age 66, who left us unexpectedly on January 28th, 2025.

Mike grew up in Mounds View, MN before moving to Cedar, MN where he would spend the rest of his life. Mike married Pamela Gallagher in 1975. In 1976, he, with help from Pam and family members, built his own home. To support his young family, he established a company at the age of 18 and successfully ran Quality Excavating (later M J Dropps and Company) for over 40 years. Later in life he worked at the Anoka County composting facility until his retirement.

Mike was also a volunteer firefighter at the Oak Grove fire department for 30 years. He served as a Fire Marshal and arson investigator. Additionally, he provided support to his community as a Fire Warden where he wrote burning permits to local residents for many years.

Mike was always interested in flying. He acquired his pilot license in the late 70s. He loved tinkering in his workshop and landscaping. One of his most impressive projects was a large rock garden he made for Pam that included a pond, fountain and concrete trail surrounded by many huge stones he set by hand. Mike always had a little twinkle in his eye and a big cheerful laugh when teasing his grandkids, which was often!

Mike and Pam were married 49 years having 3 children and 5 grandchildren during their lifetime together.

Mike was preceded in death by his mother Val Dropps; father Ed Dropps Jr; and brother Chris Dropps. He is survived by his wife Pam; his son Mike Jr; daughter Angela (Ryan); son Jer (Crystal); grandchildren: Robert, Aspen, Jason, Connor and Owen; brother Bud (Colleen); and sister Diane Strandlund (Curt).

Mike will forever be missed and his memory cherished. A celebration of life will be held:
