life story
Melvin Levercom, of Fridley, Minnesota, passed away peacefully on June 3, 2026, just two days shy of his 92nd birthday.
Born in Hennepin County, Minnesota, on June 5, 1934, Melvin lived a life defined by service, hard work, devotion to family, and unwavering integrity. He proudly served in the United States Navy during the Korean War, carrying the values of duty and dedication with him throughout his life.
Following his military service, on December 17, 1955, Melvin married the love of his life, Elizabeth Levercom. Together they built a family rooted in love, commitment, and resilience. Nothing was more important to Mel than his family. He was the kind of man who would do anything for those he loved, always willing to lend a hand, offer guidance, or provide support whenever it was needed.
Melvin built a career as a skilled mechanic and entrepreneur. He founded Minnesota Hitch, a trailer hitch and accessory business that became a successful family enterprise and provided opportunities for many family members over the years.
Melvin was known for his stories, his sense of humor, and his ability to make people feel welcome. He enjoyed bowling and coin collecting, but his greatest treasure was always the time spent with family. As a husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and great-great-grandfather, he created countless memories that will be cherished for generations.
He was preceded in death by his son, Michael Eugene Levercom, and his siblings Joyce, Warren, Wayne, Michael, Barney, Kenneth, Robert, Morley, Norton, Carol, Norma, and Grace.
Melvin is survived by his beloved wife, Elizabeth; his children, BeLinda (Jerry) Moe, Nancy (Walter) Sauter, Donald Levercom, and Roland (Michelle) Levercom; his grandchildren Shawn Johnson, Tammy Meyers, Joseph Johnson, Nickie Fischer, Angie Levercom, Amanda Boss, Krystal Leah, Erica Leslie, Nancy Leach, Kimmy Sanders, Donnie Levercom, Kenny Levercom; many great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; and numerous extended family members and friends who were blessed to know him.
Melvin's legacy lives on through the values he instilled, the stories he shared, and the love he gave so freely. To those who knew him best, he was a steady voice of wisdom, reason, and calm. While his voice may be silent now, the lessons he taught and the example he set will continue to guide his family for generations to come.
He will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
